Lindsay and Doug are Engaged

Lindsay and Doug are planning a wonderful wedding for the spring of next year. I am honored they have chosen us to capture this wonderful time for them. A few weeks ago we got together at Doug’s home to create some special images to mark their engagement. I had a great time working with them. We even got few shots in with Lindsay’s sweet dog, a gift from Doug. Enjoy a few of the special images.

Julian Gold’s Wedding Billboard is up in the Quarry

Julian Gold’s bridal salon has displayed one of our beautiful brides on their billboard near the Quarry Market. Be sure to stop by the store and let them know you saw the display. They again have used one of their valued clients for the ad. This is a very unique and personal approach to advertising. It is a win-win for all involved. The bride is flattered, the salon adds a wonderful personal touch for their clients, and I, David Sixt Photography get to display some of our most beautiful creations. Who knows, if you purchase your gown there, the art director just may choose your portrait for the billboard. Life’s Wonderful Joys

There are just a few things in life that give one true joy. I experienced it in my younger years as a watched my daughter, Heather, every year in her dance recital. That was one event I never wanted to miss. To watch her progress from a stumbling little girl as she learned the steps into a prolific sweet dancer as the years went by was captivating. When she graduated college, married, and began a family of her own I thought those precious days were behind me. Oh, how wrong I was! She and her husband have brought into this world 4 wonderful children, two of whom are girls who are now carrying on the tradition of dance. The joy is back! This past weekend both girls performed on the stage at the McAllister Auditorium for the dance recital of The Performing Arts Ballet Studio. It was pure bliss to watch the two of them perform. It was Caroline’s first, and Joy’s 6th. Although they are world’s apart in their skill level, it did not matter to me. Each girl gave me a thrill. This day in the spring is one I look forward to each year. Please indulge me as I post a few of my favorites.

Rachel and Santiago are engaged!

What a time I had last week with Rachel and Santiago! This is one very special couple from the Big Apple with South Texas connections. They are getting married next year and will be using two wonderful venues-Incarnate Word Motherhouse Chapel and the Westin Riverwalk.
Working with them was a real treat for me. They were naturals in front of my camera to which the images will attest . They are truly in love. Santiago is a true romantic, which, I imagine, is one of the reasons Rachel responds so well to him. Her gorgeous eyes and “cute” dimples give Rachel that special attraction that make for stellar images. I hope you enjoy the images and feel the love that they embody.

Kara and Jeff at The Dominion

I had a great time with Kara and Jeff this past Tuesday creating some engagement images for them. The day was perfect. The light had just the right amount of snap and the weather was cool enough that we all enjoyed ourselves. As a nice personal touch Kara and Jeff included their lab, Miley. She cooperated nicely even when a few ducks appeared on the pond. She was tempted to dart after them, but I guess her training and a leash kept her nearby. I found out toward the end of the portrait that Kara’s dad also had a part in this session. He had taken an African trip some time ago and bagged an elephant. Kara and Jeff’s boots were made from that hunt. Great gift, huh! I hope you enjoy their images.

Paige and Charles – Engagement Portraits

Paige and Charles are planning a destination wedding on the beach in Florida and unfortunately I will not be able to accompany them. But it was an honor, however, to be able to capture some engagement images for them. We had a great time at Canyon Springs Golf Club roaming around the clubhouse and the course to create a special remembrance of their engagement. I hope you enjoy these images especially since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.

Brides Unveiled – Chapter 2

As promised this is my second installment of bridal portraits. I hope you enjoy them. It is such a pleasure working with beautiful brides. I do have philosophy relating to bridal portraiture that is unique to us. My goal is to create a timeless image that each girl will cherish for a lifetime. I strive to produce something that she will look forward to sharing with her children and grandchildren. It is not to say I only create “traditional”, “stuffy” photographs. I strive to stay “current” but I am not going to follow a trend that compromises my style. I am not gong to do something because everyone else is doing it. Doing that takes away my uniqueness. That is why you will rarely see me doing extremely trendy imagery. I will do a bit of it. I look at trends like “salt.” If one over salts food the taste is ruined, while a touch of salt will enhance the taste. It is nice to remember the styles and fashions of the time but I try to be careful not to “overdo” it. I want my work to have my “signature” on it. When people look at my work I want the viewer to say, “That’s a David Sixt Portrait.” Not, “I wonder who did this portrait.”
So I doubt you will ever see me taking a bride into an alley, sitting her on a fire escape with gang graffiti as a background, hiking her dress up to her knees and having her sit pigeon toed. I have been in this business a long time and am aware of the changes that have and are taking place in this hi-tech world, but I find myself constantly drawn to images that exude beauty, romance, style, elegance and grace. I want my images to be well lit, posed naturally and classically, and with touch of fashion and style.

Unveiled Bridal Portraits Part 1

Bridal portraits are an extremely exciting and fun part of our photography business. Here in the South many brides choose to have a bridal portrait taken prior to the wedding day so they will have an image available to display at the reception. It is also a great opportunity for a trial run with their hair stylist and make-up artist to make sure the look they are after is achieved. Unfortunately, I can’t showcase the portrait prior to the wedding, as the gown is not to be seen prior to the wedding day. So I thought it would be nice to look back into my files and present a collection of images of brides whose weddings have past. For the next few weeks I will be “unveiling”, so to speak, some beautiful brides we have photographed. The images will be displayed in no particular order. I have no “favorite” bride. I love them all and each is unique in its own way. There will be more to come as time allows. Enjoy.
