month: June 2011

I had a great time with Natalie and TJ in Boerne last week creating some special images to mark their engagement.  Naturally Natalie was spectacularly beautiful and a natural in front of the camera, but I was pleasantly surprised with TJ.  Most guys are a bit reticent when it comes to being photographed, but TJ, in just a short while became very comfortable with the whole process and made the session a real success.  I am looking forward to their wedding day.  I know it is going to be a special night.  Enjoy the images.

What a way to to start the first weekend of the summer.  Allison and Andy’s wedding was stunningly beautiful and dynamically colorful.  Jewel tones abounded and I have to say I have never seen such a collection of gorgeous eyes.  Every time I pointed my camera to Allison or Andy or one of the attendants I  could not believe what I was seeing though my lens. Gorgeous eyes after gorgeous eyes accented by wonderful colors of the dresses and the striking hues of the the flowers.  Alamo Heights Methodist Church provided the setting for the exchange of their vows. Afterwards the wedding party and 300 + guests adjourned to the Club of Sonterra for dinner and dancing.  The night truly was magical-a night I am sure no one wanted to end.  Here are a few of my favorite images.  If you want to enjoy all of the images feel free to click this link-David Sixt Photography

Photographing engagement portraits is one of my most favorite sessions to do. Getting to work with couples just prior to their marriage always provides for some great images. My hope is that these images will always remind them of how much in love they are. Granted, the guys are more reticent about taking the images than the girls, but in this case Forrest was a very willing subject and I think we achieved some outstanding results. We traveled to Camp Verde, close to Bandera, and photographed on their family ranch. The ranch is historical. In fact, it was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1973. The property was a U.S. Army facility in the mid-1800′s. In fact, the camp was the headquarters for U.S. Camel Corps. Yes, the government experimented with camels as pack animals. The experiment did not last too long as the camels did not get along with the Army’s horses and mules and the soldiers found them difficult to handle and they detested their smell. Camp Verde was abandoned on April 1, 1869, but the officer’s quarters are still standing. The property made for a unique and personal setting for Meriel and Forrest’s portraits. In fact, they became engaged on the mountain top where we captured some of the sunset images.  Their wedding is scheduled for this summer in Rhode Island, Meriel’s home.  I wish them the best.

Meriel's eyes are so beautiful!

Roaming around the ranch remembering history.

I don't use this vintage technique much, but I thought it worked at this location.

Jenna and Nathan were married this past Saturday at the Margarite B. Parker Chapel on the campus of Trinity University.  Their reception was held at The Pearl Stables.  These high school sweethearts are two of the finest young people around.  They and their families were joys to work with and despite the intense heat, their happiness never wilted.  We began the day at Jenna’s parents home where we captured all of the fun that goes on behind the scenes as she prepared for her big day. We then concluded the formal photography at the chapel.  After a very special ceremony everyone traveled to Pearl Stables to continue the celebration with dinner and dancing. If you want to view all of Jenna and Nathan’s images click this link.

Check  out a few of the wedding day images and a short slide show that highlights their day.

I have prepared a short slideshow of the day for you to enjoy. Please be patient as the show loads. If you watch it a second time it should load faster.

The 100 degree heat could not put a damper on Elisabeth and Matt’s wedding. There was standing room only at Christ Episcopal Church Saturday evening as this wonderful couple exchanged vows before God. The spirit of love abounded. Elisabeth and Matt could not have been more glorious. A very special thank you to Carrie Catalani and Lee Anne Hendry for all they did to make this night flow flawlessly. Afterwards everyone took the short drive to the Argyle to celebrate with the newly married Koehler’s. The house and the tent, thanks to Danny Cuellar of Trinity Flowers, looked spectacular. All were treated a wonderful dinner prepared by John Marrotta and his fabulous staff. The food there never ceases to amaze me. After cutting the ever delicious cake by Cathy Young the rest of the evening was spent celebrating with friends and being entertained inside and out. Inside, Ditto and the Dots,  gave an intimate performance and we were even serenaded by Elisabeth’s father as he joined in with the band and belted out a few familiar tunes. The younger crowd gathered in the tent and danced the night away to the rockin’ sounds of “Professor D” from Dallas. They kept the dance floor hoppin’ all evening long. It was a night no one wanted to see end. Enjoy a peek into Elisabeth and Matt’s day with a few images below. If inclined, feel free to click this link to see all of the images from the evening.

Amanda and Andy traveled to San Antonio to exchange their vows in two historic venues.  The ceremony was held in the venerable St. John’s Lutheran Church in downtown San Antonio.  St. John’s is a wonderful choice for a downtown wedding.  Not only is the church itself a gorgeous venue it has great historical significance to our city and many of the early founders.  The staff there is also very welcoming and tries to make all guests feel at home.  Amanda and Andy continued their celebration at the beautifully restored Sunset Station near the Alamo Dome.  They danced all evening to the wonderful sounds of SA’s own Oh So Good Band.  They were at their best Saturday as attested by the continual flood of guests on the dance floor.  The RK group was responsible for the wonderful dinner for the evening and as usual they did not disappoint.  It was an honor for me to work with these wonderful families and capture all of the beauty, wonder and joy of this special day.  I hope you enjoy a glimpse into their evening.  If you desire to view all of their images just click this link:  David Sixt Photography.

Julian Gold’s bridal salon has displayed one of our beautiful brides on their billboard near the Quarry Market. Be sure to stop by the store and let them know you saw the display. They again have used one of their valued clients for the ad. This is a very unique and personal approach to advertising. It is a win-win for all involved. The bride is flattered, the salon adds a wonderful personal touch for their clients, and I, David Sixt Photography get to display some of our most beautiful creations.  Who knows, if you purchase your gown there, the art director just may choose your portrait for the billboard.  If you got your gown at Julian Gold give me a call and let’s create something “billboard worthy.”
