month: March 2010

I know Nicole had to be missing Ricky.  He has been in the Middle East helping preserve our freedom.  Nonetheless when you are engaged and in love you want to be with your man.  Ricky was home on leave for a couple of weeks but had to return on Monday, so we took advantage of this time to create portraits of the two of them to mark their engagement.  Nicole wanted do something special on the streets of downtown SA.  She wanted to create a similar image to the famous photograph of  the sailor kissing a girl in Times Square at the end of WWll.  Alfred Eisenstaedt, the photographer, was in the right place at the right time.  We put our own touch to this iconic image.  Enjoy this image and a few others from the session.  Thanks Ricky for your service to all of us.  I for one am grateful to you and the other soldiers who sacrifice so much.

Brittni and Chris are to be married in Mexico this summer but wanted to create some wonderful images together at the McNay.  We had a great time.  They proved to be very relaxed with each other and I think we got some super images for them.  Enjoy!

I was awakened around 6 AM on Saturday to claps of thunder and bolts of lightning and a down pouring of rain.  My thoughts turned immediately to Sara and Jeremy.  Was the weather going to cooperate or were they going to have to go to plan B?  Not only was there rain, but the thermometer was hovering in the 30’s.  An outside wedding at the gazebo and a dinner on the lawn for 400 were looking in jeopardy.  Selfishly my thoughts then turned to myself.  What was I going to do about the photography?  If all of the changes were going to occur, the florist, lighting techs, caterer, linen designer, and band were all going to be in my way and I couldn’t do anything about that.  They had to have priority to set everything up.  Then I thought of Keith Patterson of Club Giraud.  I knew he would make space for me somewhere at the club.  But as the hours ticked by the weather began to clear.  The sun came out and the temps rose to the 50’s.  I knew we would be okay.  Still I came prepared for the worse.  I had nearly every piece of equipment with me just in case.

Everything turned out beautifully!!  Sara and Jeremy were radiant!  The setting couldn’t have been more wonderful.  Steve Pizzini of Pizzini Designs had the Craft Center looking spectacular. You can see all of his work and the rest of Sara and Jeremy’s photographs by clicking this link.

Thanks to Betty Parish, owner of The Wedding Planners , for keeping us on task and seeing that all ran smoothly.  Keith and Club Giraud never fail us.  The food and service was impeccable. Despite the chilly conditions, everyone enjoyed celebrating with Sara and Jeremy.  The Pictures from Austin entertained the crowd all evening with their wonderful sound.  The dance floor was full all night long.

Sooo beautiful!!

"Until death do us part."

I love these tender moments on the dance floor. It's as no one else is around.

There is nothing like a great cake to sweeten up the night!

I was experimenting with some new equipment here. I shot these with only the available light and ISO settings of 6400 and 10000. Incredible I think. New possibilities for creativity are opening all of the time.

We have been proponents of doing all the “formal” type photographs prior to the wedding since the 80’s, long before it was in vogue. We have found it to be not only very romantic, but also liberating since the bride and groom now get to enjoy their family, friends, and loved ones much more and not have to worry about being photographed while everyone else is having fun. They now have control of their time and not me (the way it should be). To achieve this we provide a quite moment for them to be alone for a few minutes before the excitement of the day begins. What you see in the collection of images below is the moment Sara and Jeremy saw each other for the first time on their wedding day–a truly special time.

Andrea and Anthony, graduates of Trinity University, came “home” to get married.  The Parker Chapel is a wonderful setting for a wedding. The grounds of Trinity are always beautiful and when you add the beauty of such a great couple the results are outstanding.  The photographs attest to that.  Thanks again to Sue of Alamo Plants and Petals for all of the arrangements and to Betty Parish for her masterful planning.  Everything always goes off without a blemish when she is there.  Sue’s florals made the church and The Westin Riverwalk’s Hidalgo Room shine.  I always appreciate the job Eva and her team at the Westin do.  The staff is so attentive to details and considerate of everyone’s needs.  Enjoy the images.  The link to all of the images are here.

Andrea brings her gown alive!

Anthony made a great choice here, don't you think?

I love the way the light wraps around Andrea. Heather took this one. I don't credit her enough. She has an incredible eye.

Lauren and Benji were married March 6th at Temple Beth-El. They were married under a gorgeous chuppah created by Sue at Alamo Plants and Petals. The ceremony was officiated by the venerable rabbi Stahl. Afterwards the dinner and dancing was at the McNay Art Museum.  The museum is a wonderful reception site.  It exudes elegance, style and class.  I know everyone had a joyous time celebrating with Lauren and Benji.

Enjoy the few images I have posted here. To see the entire collection of images click this link.

Lauren and Benji wanted to see each prior to the wedding so they could enjoy a quiet moment together before the excitement all began.

Lauren's eyes tell the complete story!
